How to Make Stir-Fried Shrimp Broccoli

Here is a cheap way to have a shrimp and broccoli dish stir fry which is similar to Stir-fried Shrimp Broccoli dish in a Chinese restaurant in America.

We cooked it in a Vietnamese at-home way. There is one thing that is not like in a Chinese restaurant which is used in almost every Chinese food dish as far as we know is starch. We don’t use any starch or flour in it so the food is great for those people who are allergic to the flour and starch. If you don’t have any issue with the starch or flour, then add it into your stir fry dish like a Chinese restaurant does.

How to make a simple and easy Shrimp and Broccoli Stir Fry

To make broccoli with shrimp stir fry, here are what you need to do.

Firs of all, you need to buy some broccoli and shrimp.

Ingredients:

  • shrimp
  • broccoli
  • cooking oil
  • garlic
  • salt
  • sugar
  • scallion/green onion, cilantro, pepper… (optional)
  • optional: soy sauce, oyster sauce , starch, MSG…

Preparations:

  • For the broccoli, cut it into the size you want to eat. Wash and let them sit in a colander to drain the excess water. For the bottom part of the broccoli, use a knife to tear the hard unused skin before cutting.
  • For the shrimp, wash, peel and devein. If you like the taste of the marinated shrimp, then marinate them by adding whatever seasonings you want and set aside to let it marinated.
  • For the scallion and cilantro, wash and cut.

Now, it is the time to cook.

Directions:

  • Bring a skillet or a pot to warm hot. Add the cooking oil.
  • When the cooking oil is slightly hot, add the smash garlic, stir.
  • When the garlic turns into light golden brown, add the broccoli and then stir.
  • When the broccoli’s color is changed, add the shrimp and stir.
  • When the shrimp is slightly changed the color, add whatever seasonings you like such as salt and pepper.
  • Finally, add the scallion and/or cilantro, then stir and remove from the heat. If you plan to have them on the stove until you eat, you can turn the stove off in advance.

Notes:

  • If you want to have a slightly Chinese restaurant taste, you can add soy sauce and/or oyster sauce… as a seasoning, add some kinds of flour to marinate the shrimp such as potato starch, cornstarch, tapioca starch… blanch the broccoli before stir frying, blanch, not steam… and of course, might be adding some MSG to define the flavor of the food.
  • Even though, you don’t add any seasoning, it’s still be fine; you can dip them in any sauce you want when you eat; for example, dipping with mayonnaise and/or ketchup or hoisin sauce or soy sauce or Vietnamese style fish sauce mixed.
  • During the cooking process, you can add some water to lessen the drying of the broccoli.
